Experience the sacred presence of Christ with the Reliquary of the Sacred Cross, a handcrafted micro-shrine by Holy Hearth in Perth, Western Australia. As a traditional Catholic craftsman, I create each piece with devotion, using the finest Western Australian Jarrah hardwood a timber celebrated for its rich, deep hues and enduring strength, sourced exclusively from the forests of Western Australia.
This reliquary features a removable Latin cross with corpus, adorned with gold-gilded accents and a halo, symbolising Christ’s sacrifice and divine glory. An Orthodox cross variant without corpus is also available, equally enhanced with gold gilding, offering a timeless symbol of faith rooted in Eastern Christian tradition. Both variants bear a small Chi Rho symbol engraved on the upper section—a historic Christian monogram formed by the Greek letters "Chi" (Χ) and "Rho" (Ρ), the first two letters of "Christos" (Christ). Popularized by Emperor Constantine after his vision in 312 AD, the Chi Rho signifies Christ’s triumph over death and His eternal presence. The removable cross is designed to be carried with you—a tactile reminder of Christ’s ever-present love and sacrifice. Place it at your workspace or carry it throughout your day, returning it to its base shrine as a mindful act of devotion, connecting you to the rhythm of prayer and reflection.
The base, supported by elegant copper-zinc legs, features a recessed area for a tea light, with three engraved lines rising toward the cross, representing the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in perfect unity. On the upper side of the base, the Alpha and Omega symbols are engraved, signifying Christ as the beginning and the end. The base is finished with a high-gloss varnish to highlight Jarrah’s natural beauty, while its underside is sealed with natural beeswax for protection. The removable cross, designed for portability, is finished with a satin varnish for scuff resistance, with its back also sealed in beeswax, ensuring durability through daily use. For authenticity, both pieces bear the Holy Hearth maker’s mark, a guarantee of my personal craftsmanship and dedication to creating sacred, heirloom-quality devotional items.
